"In almost every culture there has existed a more or less ubiquitous concept of beauty, a unifying spirit shining forth in objects of daily use in our contemporary culture, however, the fractured quality of so-called aesthetic concepts has resulted in an unparalleled absence of beauty from our man-made environments. When working with lightweight structures it is fascinating to observe how their inherent beauty seems to rather spontaneously 'appear' - usually after a laborious process of definition and optimization, not by a predetermined design. The pure mathematical beauty in minimal surfaces is also the beauty in nature where all structures are optimized."
